| In the Modular Merchant shopping cart software, promotions are created using the Event Engine. Any promotion is therefore considered to be an event. It is possible to create events that are triggered when a customer enters the specified combination of characters at checkout. That type of event is referred to as a coupon, and the combination of characters that must be entered at checkout is referred to as the coupon code.  Gift Certificates vs Coupon Codes Gift Certificates are not coupons. A Gift Certificate is a product that generates a redeemable coupon code when it is purchased in the storefront by a customer. |
