ISO Codes (ISO 3166), for the purpose of performing searches in the Administration Area, define code names for countries and their principal subdivisions (provinces or states). Most searches require searching by the country or state/province two-letter code (ISO 3166-1 alpha-2). However, there are some cases where a three-letter code is necessary.

ISO Code - Countries

Country codes are specified as two-letter codes when performing searches in the Administration Area.

example
If you wanted to search for customers who have a Shipping or Billing Country (ISO) of the United States of America, or Australia, they would need to be defined by ISO Code.

Instead of defining the search as "United States of America" you would enter the two-letter ISO Code, which is "US".

Rather than searching for "Australia" you would enter the two-letter code; "AU".

ISO Code - States/Provinces

States and provinces are most often specified as two-letter codes. For some countries, some of their states or provinces are defined with three-letter codes.

There are two different methods that are most commonly used to search for the Shipping or Billing State (ISO).

1. If searching for a Shipping/Billing State (ISO) that contains a specified ISO Code, then the system will search for anything containing the content you specified.

example
If searching for WA, the system will look for any customers who have a Shipping/Billing ISO that contains WA.

This could bring up Washington and/or Western Australia.

2. If searching for a Shipping/Billing State (ISO) that is a specified ISO Code, then the system will search for customers who have a Shipping/Billing ISO that specifically matches the one specified.

In this case, it would be needed to format the code as STATE_COUNTRY.

example
WA_US
(for Washington, United States of America)

WA_AU
(for Western Australia, Australia)

As mentioned before, some countries have states/provinces that require a three-letter ISO Code. An example of this would be the Australian province of New South Wales. Instead of performing a search for a Shipping or Billing State (ISO) of "New South Wales" it would be "NSW".
