Inventory Objects are used to keep track of the inventory of tangible items in the store.   Inventory Objects are automatically created by the system if the number of units available is specified in the Product Editor.  The Inventory Object Editor is used to create and configure Inventory Objects.

key concept
Multiple products can share an inventory object.  In addition, a single product can have multiple Inventory Objects associated with itself.  This provides the ability to create product bundles.

To create a new Inventory Object:
  1. Go to [Products > Search Inventory Items > +].
  2. Configure the Inventory Object.
  3. Click the Submit All button when finished.

To edit an existing Inventory Object:
  1. Go to [Products > Search Inventory Items].
  2. Click either the SID number or the icon associated with the inventory object.
  3. Make the desired changes to the inventory object.
  4. Click the Submit All button at the bottom of the page.

Inventory Object Columns

SID (System ID)
The SID (System ID) is a unique number that identifies the inventory object to the system.  This number cannot be changed.  The SID will be assigned once the inventory object has been created.

Name
The Name of the Inventory Object is required.

Infinite Stock
If selected, inventory for the object will not be tracked.

Units Available
The Units Available is the current stock level of the inventory object.

Allow Overselling?
If selected, customers will be able to purchase products that have the inventory object assigned to it, even when the units available is 0.

Low Stock Alert
When the units available reaches this number, an email will be automatically sent to warn that the stock level is getting low. Currently, the system generates the Low Stock Alert emails during the midnight hour, for any inventory objects below their specified Low Stock Alert thresholds at that time. The Low Stock Alert email template is located at [Design > Email Messages > SID 500 Low Stock Notification].

note
To use the Low Stock Alert feature, one or more email addresses must be specified in the Low Stock Notification area in the System Settings.

Notes
Notes are hidden and displayed to store administrators only.
