This tutorial describes the steps to put nearly every product -- but not all products -- on sale for a specified length of time.

To replicate this type of functionality in your store, use the Category Editor and the Event Engine Editor to create an event with the following Triggers and Results:

Setting up the Category

Before setting up the event, use the Category Editor to create a new category. This will be a "hidden" category, used only for maintenance purposes, so make the category inactive; inactive categories are not displayed in the storefront.

After the hidden category has been created, assign every product that is to be put on sale to it. (Products may be assigned to multiple categories, so assigning them to this hidden category won't interfere with their original category associations.)

The result is that the store now contains an inactive category that has multiple products assigned to it. The next step is to create the Event that will put all of the products associated with that category on sale.

Setting up the Event

In the Event Editor, create an Event with the following specifications:

General Information
In the General Information section, set the desired Start Date and End Date. The sale price will be applied to the product through the dates specified. (The End Date can also be set to Never Expires, which would keep the sale price going indefinitely.

Triggers
In the option titled How to apply the Triggers below, select the option: This event doesn't use triggers. This will allow the sale price to be applied to the storefront automatically, without the need for the customer to enter a coupon code, add a product to their basket, or perform any other action.

Results
The event's result(s) should be set up as follows.

result 1 of 1
Type: product pricing
Details: The price of products in category SID 123 is  decreased  10 percent

In the example above, change "123" to SID number of the hidden category that was created in the previous step. The result is that all of the products associated with that category will now be discounted by 10% in the storefront.
