This tutorial explains how to create a coupon code that may be redeemed for a discount on a specific product.
Overview
-
When the coupon is redeemed by a customer, the customer will receive a discount on the price of the specific product.
To replicate this type coupon code, use the Event Editor to create an event with the following settings.
tip Explanations of each of the Event Editor settings is provided in the Event Engine Editor Knowledge Base article. In this tutorial, only the most relevant settings will be discussed.
General Information
Event Type Coupon Code... When the customer enters the coupon code: Enter the text of the coupon code
Active YES
Redeem Limit Event may be redeemed an unlimited number of times
Reusable YES
Retain Balance NO
How to apply the Triggers below This event doesn't use triggers. (It's either ALWAYS applied, or uses a coupon code with no additional requirements.)
Event results
Result Type product pricing
The price of product SID Y is decreased X dollars
Once all of the event's settings have been configured, click the blue Save Changes button to create the new coupon code.
Example: Coupon Code for $10.00 off product SID 123
Event Type Coupon Code... When the customer enters the coupon code: 10OFF
Active YES
Redeem Limit Event may be redeemed an unlimited number of times
Reusable YES
Retain Balance NO
How to apply the Triggers below This event doesn't use triggers. (It's either ALWAYS applied, or uses a coupon code with no additional requirements.)
Result Type product pricing
The price of product SID 123 is decreased 10 dollars
Once all of the event's settings have been configured, click the blue Save Changes button to create the new coupon code.
More customizations...
Restrict the event by redeem limit, reusability, or date...
In the example above, the event's Redeem Limit and Reusable settings are configured so that the coupon may be redeemed an unlimited number of times by an unlimited number of customers. Each customer may reuse the coupon an unlimited number of times.
If the event's Redeem Limit setting is adjusted, it would be possible to limit how many times the coupon may be redeemed, among all customers.
If the event's Reusable setting is adjusted, it would be possible to restrict the event so that each customer may only use the coupon code once.
It would also be possible to adjust the event's Start Date and End Date settings so that the coupon may only be redeemed for a limited period of time.
Restrict the event by triggers...
If the How to apply the Triggers below option is set to either Match ALL the triggers below or Match ANY of the triggers below , then additional options will be show in the Event Editor, allowing triggers to be applied to the event. The trigger rules may be used to specify requirements that must be met in order for the customer to receive the event's discount. If a customer applies a coupon code, but does not meet the event's trigger requirements, then the customer will not receive the discount.
For instance, if the coupon code was created specifically for use by a customer group used to track "wholesale" customers, the following trigger rules might be added:
Trigger Type customer
Trigger Details The customer is in the Customer Group SID SID number of the "wholesale" customer group
If a customer who is not in the "wholesale" customer group applies the coupon code, the customer will not receive the event's discount.
Add more results...
Additional results may be added in the Add a result to this Event section. Each time a new result is configured, saving the event will transfer the new result rules to the Event results section, so that the Add a result to this Event section is again available to add another new result.
For example, the coupon code for $10 off product SID 123 could be updated to also provide a $10 discount on product SID 456:
General Information
Event Type Coupon Code...
Event results
Result Type product pricing
The price of product SID 123 is decreased 10 dollars
Add a result to this Event
Result Type product pricing
The price of product SID 456 is decreased 10 dollars
Once the additional result has been configured, click the blue Save Changes button add the new result to the event.
That's it for this tutorial! The information above may be used to create a coupon code that discounts product Y by X dollars/percent. The coupon code's event settings may even by customized to add restrictions on redeeming the coupon, or to add more results.
