Shipping Method Editor

Shipping methods are individual shipping options that customers select during checkout when buying shipped products.  The store has the ability of using both real time rates through FedEx, UPS, and USPS, as well custom rates created using the Shipping Method EditorThe Shipping Method Editor is used to create and edit shipping methods for the store.

Each Modular Merchant account comes included with a large selection of common shipping methods through the 3 major shipping companies.  Those shipping methods can be activated or deactivated using the Search Shipping Methods page.

note
It may be necessary to acquire an account through the 3rd party shipping companies before the store can use the real time shipping rates.  Once the account(s) have been established, plug the account info into the store by going to Modules > 3rd Party Service Integration.

 
To create a new shipping method:
  1. Go to Shipping > Add a Shipping Method.
  2. Configure the Shipping Method.
  3. Click the Save Changes button when finished.
 
To edit an existing shipping method:
  1. Go to Shipping > Search Shipping Methods.
  2. Locate the Shipping Method using the provided search tools.
  3. Click either the SID number or the icon associated with the shipping method.
  4. Make the desired changes to the shipping method.
  5. Click the Save Changes button when finished.
 
General Options

SID (System ID)
The SID (System ID) is a unique number that identifies the shipping method to the system.  This number is set by the software and cannot be changed.  The SID will be assigned to the shipping method after it has been created.

Shipping Method Name
The Shipping Method Name will be the name the customers sees in the storefront, when the shipping methods are displayed.

Type
The four types of shipping methods available are USPS, UPS, FedEx, and custom.

Display Order
The Display Order is used to specify the order the various shipping methods are displayed to the customer in the storefront.  The lower the number, the higher the priority.

Active
If  is selected, the shipping method is eligible for the storefront.  If , the shipping method is inactive and is not eligible.

 
Custom Shipping Formula

Base Rate
The Base Rate is used to calculate the base price of the shipping method.  The rate can either be a flat dollar amount  or a percentage. 

Per Item Rate
The Per Item Rate section can be used to add additional shipping fees if the order contains a certain number of items, weight, or value.

Surcharge
Surcharges can be either a percentage or fixed dollar amount. This can be useful if the value of the shipping method returned by the third-party (such as FedEx or UPS) is consistently lower than your costs, in order to recoup the difference.

The Custom Shipping Formula section will only appear when creating or editing a custom rate.

 
Limits

Limits can be used to establish a minimum or maximum price for the shipping method, as well as when the shipping method is available.  Leave Limits blank or set to zero to ignore them during checkout.

Shipping Method's Minimum Value
Use this field to set a minimum value for the shipping method.  If the shipping method's price falls under this amount, this default value will be used by the store instead.

Shipping Method's Maximum Value
Use this field to set a maximum value for the shipping method.  If the shipping method's price exceeds this amount, this default value will be used by the store instead.

Low Display Threshold
The shipping method will not be available to customers if the low display threshold isn't met.  The threshold may be a minimum number of items, a minimum total price , or a minimum total weight for the order.

High Display Threshold
The shipping method will not be available to customers if the high display threshold is exceeded.  The threshold may be a maximum number of items, a maximum total price , or a maximum total weight for the order.

Free Shipping Threshold
The shipping method will be free of charge if the order meets the free shipping threshold criteria.  The threshold may be a minimum number of items, a minimum total price, or a minimum total weight for the order.

Use the Low Display Threshold coupled with the Free Shipping Threshold to quickly and easily add a Free Shipping for orders over $100 type special.

 
Display Zones

Display zones can be set up to make a shipping method available only to specified geographic locations.

Select which areas this shipping method should be displayed to.
Select Display to customers everywhere to not use Display Zones for this shipping method.  Select Display only to customers in the zones selected below... to open some additional options, which are explained below.

Shipping Triggers
Use the dropdown menu to select Any or All.
  If Any, the shipping method must only meet any of the display zone's criteria.  If All, the shipping method must meet all of them.

Zip Code
One or more zip codes can be inputted.  Separate multiple zip codes by commas.

States
One or more states can be selected.  To select multiple states, hold down the Ctrl key.

Countries
One or more countries can be selected.  To select multiple countries, hold down the Ctrl key.
