New Order Notifications

When a new order is placed, configurable notification emails are generated. Various reports also contain information about new orders.

The shopping cart includes two different types of new order emails: the order receipt email, and the new order notification email. Additional emails may also be triggered by some types of orders. For instance, if the order generated an affiliate commission, then an affiliate sales commission email may be sent to the affiliate.

tip:store-generated email messages
Each type of new order email may be customized by editing the corresponding Store-Generated Email Message template. This is briefly discussed for each type of email below. For more detailed information about Store-Generated Email Messages, please refer to the following Knowledge Base articles:

Order Receipt Email

The shopping cart is capable of automatically emailing an order receipt to the customer, for every order. In the default configuration, the automatic order receipt email is enabled. To enable or disable the order receipt email, go to [Admin > System Settings > Messaging Options]. If the Sales Receipt toggle in the Messaging Options section of the store's System Settings is set to YES, then an order receipt email is automatically sent to the customer, for every order. A copy may also be sent to one or more store admins, by adding the store admin email address(es) as additional recipients.

To review or customize the order receipt email template, go to [Design > Email Messages] and click the SID number link or edit button for SID 100: Order Receipt {ORDER-ID}.

The Plain Text Version and HTML Version may be edited and enabled or disabled individually. If both versions are disabled, then the shopping cart will be unable to send order receipt emails, and will display an error message at checkout each time an order is completed.

tip: common customizations
The following Knowledge Base article describes some of the QuickCode Tags that are commonly added to the order receipt email template:
Common customizations for the Order Receipt email

If an Additional Recipient email address is specified for the email template SID 100: Order Receipt {ORDER-ID}, then that email address will receive an exact copy of the order receipt email that is sent to the customer.

optionally suppress the order receipt email for subscription transactions
It is possible to set the shopping cart to automatically email an order receipt for all orders placed in the storefront, and all orders manually placed by a store admin using the Place an Order tool, but to not email an order receipt for orders generated when subscriptions are processed.

This may be accomplished by first setting the Sales Receipt toggle in the store's System Settings to YES, then going to [Orders > Subscription Orders Module > Subscription Module Settings], and setting the Order Receipt toggle there to NO.

New Order Notification Email

The new order notification email may optionally be sent to one or more store admins. To enable the new order notification email and to specify recipients, go to [Admin > System Settings > Messaging Options]. If the Order Notification text field is left blank, new order notification emails will not be sent. If an email address is added to the Order Notification text field, the new order notification emails will automatically be sent to the specified email address. Multiple email addresses may be entered, with each email address separated by a comma.

The new order notification email default template is very similar to the order receipt email template, but may be customized individually. To review or customize the new order notification email template, go to [Design > Email Messages] and click the SID number link or edit button for SID 104: New Order Notification: Order {ORDER-ID}.

Affiliate Sales Commission Email

An affiliate sales commission email may optionally be sent to the affiliate. A copy may also be sent to one or more store admins, by adding the store admin email address(es) as additional recipients.

To enable the affiliates sales commission email, go to [Modules > Affiliate Marketing > Affiliate Module Settings]. If Option 12 Use "Sales Notification" email? is set to NO, affiliate sales commission emails will not be sent. If Option 12 Use "Sales Notification" email? is set to YES, affiliate sales commission emails will not be sent.

The affiliate sales commission email template may be reviewed and customized at [Modules > Affiliate Marketing > Affiliate Module Settings], in the Affiliate Notification of a Sale Email section. The email template is also accessible by going to [Design > Email Messages] and clicking the SID number link or edit button for SID 301 Affiliate Sales Commission Email.

If an Additional Recipient email address is specified, then that email address will receive an exact copy of the affiliate sales commission email that is sent to the affiliate. Email addresses for multiple store admins may be added in a comma-separated list.

New Order Tracking on the Admin Home Page

In addition to the email notifications triggered by new orders, the store's admin home page displays the 10 most recent orders. This information is located at [Home > Admin Home Page] in the section titled Recent Orders.

Daily Snapshot

The Daily Snapshot report, located at [Reports > Daily Snapshot] also contains information about new orders. The Orders section of the Daily Snapshot report lists all of the orders for the specified date range. By default, the Daily Snapshot report displays data for the current day only, but a different date range may be entered in the Search Daily Snapshot section.
