The term active refers to something that is "on" and is ready to be used. For example, a customer can log in and make purchases if their customer account is active.
Many items in the shopping cart software can be set to be either active or inactive. Here's a list of each one, and what its active status controls:
Admin
Inactive Admins may not acces the store's Administration Area or communicate with Moduar Merchant technical support.
Admin Attribute
Inactive Admin Attributes are not displayed in the Admin Editor.
Affiliate TID (Tracking ID number)
Inactive Affiliate TIDs do not earn commissions.
Ban Rule
Inactive Ban Rules will not prevent orders containing the specified criteria from being placed in the storefront.
Category
Inactive category pages cannot be viewed in the storefront by customers.
Category Attribute
Inactive Category Attributes are not displayed in the Category Editor or storefront.
Customer
Inactive customers may not log in to their Customer Account area or place orders in the storefront.

While customers cannot log in or place orders, they can have:
• Orders placed for them by an administrator. (Place an Order Tool.)
• Subscriptions processed.
Customer Attribute
Inactive Customer Attributes are not displayed in the Customer Editor or storefront.
Customer Field
Inactive Customer Fields are not displayed in the Customer Editor or storefront.
Customer Group
Inactive Customer Groups will not be eligable for group discounts, Modular Mailer emails, etc.
Digital Object
Inactive Digital Objects are not available for download in the storefront's Download Area.
Dropshipper
Inactive dropshippers don't receive fulfillment reports.
Email Template
An email message using an inactive email template will not be delivered. Inactive email templates will not be available for selection when composing email messages within the Modular Mailer module.
Events
Inactive events will not be triggered.
Order Field
Inactive Order Fields are not displayed in the Order Editor or storefront.
Product
Inactive products are not displayed in the storefront and may only be purchased by store admins. Subscriptions containing inactive products will be declined, unless the subscriptions are manually processed by a store admin.
Product Attributes
Inactive Product Attributes are not displayed in the Product Editor or storefront.
Product Fields
Inactive Product Fields are not displayed in the Product Editor or storefront.
Product Group
Inactive Product Groups will not be displayed in the storefront.
Related Product Group
Inactive Related Product rules will not be displayed in the storefront.
Review (Active status is used as the review's approval.)
Inactive (unapproved) reviews will not be displayed in the storefront.
Ship Method
Inactive ship methods are not displayed in the storefront.
Tax
Inactive taxes are not applied to orders or displayed in the storefront.
Vendor
Inactive vendor pages cannot be viewed in the storefront by customers.
Vendor Attributes
Inactive Vendor Attributes are not displayed in the Vendor Editor or storefront.
Zone Fee
Inactive Zone Fees are not applied to shipping fees in the storefront.
1-Click Upsell Rule
Inactive 1-Click Upsell Rules are not used in the storefront.
